Ticketing glossary

The words that appear in your dashboard, defined once.

Selling

  • Ticket type (tier) — a thing you sell: a price, a quantity, and rules about buying it.
  • Allocation — how many of a ticket type exist. The real cap on the door.
  • Sale window — when a ticket type is on sale. Early-bird pricing is two windows, not a discount.
  • Face value — the ticket price before fees. What resale is measured against.
  • Hold — tickets set aside for a buyer mid-checkout. Released if they do not finish.
  • Waitlist — the queue for a sold-out tier, offered returns in order with a window to claim.

Money

  • Platform fee — Tiqstar's 7% of a paid ticket.
  • Processing fee — the payment provider's charge, which varies by market.
  • Fee bearer — who pays a given fee: absorbed by you, or passed on to the guest.
  • Gross / net — before fees, and after them. Your payout is net.
  • Settlement — money moving from the processor to your balance.
  • Payout — money moving from your balance to your bank or mobile-money account.
  • Chargeback — a buyer disputing a charge with their bank rather than asking you. Funds are held while it is decided.
  • Escrow — a vendor booking's payment held by the platform until the job is completed.

At the door

  • Check-in — a ticket scanned and admitted. Each admits one person once.
  • Scan result — what the scanner decided: admitted, already used, wrong event, invalid, or cancelled.
  • Manual lookup — admitting someone found by name or order number instead of by code, for a dead phone.
  • Offline queue — scans stored on a device with no connection, reconciled when it reconnects.
  • No-show rate — tickets sold minus people scanned. The number that should shape your next capacity.

Accounts and roles

  • Guest — the default account. Browse, buy, hold tickets.
  • Creator — approved to publish events and sell tickets.
  • Vendor — approved to list services and take bookings.
  • Gate staff — added to a specific event to scan it, and nothing else.
  • Verification (KYC) — the identity or business checks required before payouts.
