What we do
Tiqstar is a ticketing and events platform. Somebody buys a ticket, a creator counts on the money arriving, and a stranger on a door at 11pm has to scan a code on a phone with no signal and decide whether to let someone in. Every part of that has to work the first time.
That's the appeal of the job: there is very little abstraction between what you build and whether a real evening goes well.
How we work
- Small team, wide scope. You will own things end to end rather than a slice of them. That includes the boring parts.
- Ship, then watch. We put things in front of real events quickly and pay attention to what happens, instead of running long planning cycles.
- Written down. Decisions and their reasoning live in the repo, so the person who inherits the code inherits the argument too.
- No fake anything. We would rather ship a feature late than ship a screen that looks like it works. That standard applies to marketing copy as much as to code.
- Remote-friendly, Lagos-anchored. The market we know best is the one we're in, and we spend time at the events we sell tickets to.
Who we look for
People who finish things. Who ask what happens when the network drops, when the payment succeeds but the callback doesn't, when the venue's Wi-Fi is a phone hotspot. Who can write a clear sentence — most of this job is explaining something to somebody.
We care about what you have built and how you think about it, not where you studied. If your experience is unconventional, tell us about it directly rather than hoping a filter lets it through.
Open roles
Nothing is formally posted right now. We hire in bursts, usually just before or just after a busy season, and roles are often filled from people who wrote to us before there was a listing.
If you're the person for a job we haven't advertised, that's exactly the message we want to get.
How to apply
Email careers@tiqstar.com. Tell us what you would want to work on here and point us at something you've made — a repo, a product, a piece of writing. A short, specific note beats a long, general one.
We read everything and reply to everyone, though not always quickly. If you'd rather ask a question first, contact us.
