Saturday Morning Cartoon Club

A proper Saturday morning matinee: two hours of animation on the big screen, pitched squarely at the under-tens. Doors open half an hour early so nobody is climbing over knees in the dark, the house lights stay at a quarter through the screening, and the volume is held a few notches below the usual mix — small ears, small nerves. Every child ticket comes with popcorn and a drink, collected on the way in rather than queued for at the counter.

The programme runs a headline animated feature followed by a short reel of cartoon classics, and the whole thing is done by half twelve, which leaves the rest of the day intact. Buggies park in the foyer, there is a changing table in both washrooms, and nobody minds if a two-year-old talks through the entire film.
